Indoor waterfalls and indoor water fountains transform silent homes and office spaces into soothing natural environments rich with the sound of flowing water. Known for their relaxing and healing powers, floor fountains and wall fountains add the soothing sound of water to any space, while adding a visually stunning focal piece.
Water wall fountains come in many beautiful materials such as copper, stainless steel, slate, marble, and glass. For a natural look and feel there are slate waterfalls, marble wall fountains, and glass water features in a variety of colors and sizes that will add a focal point to any space. If you have a contemporary décor, there are mirrored and glass units that can be framed in stainless steel that have a clean and sharp look.
The fountains that you will find come in a variety of surface and frame materials that can be combined to match any décor. Here at Fireplace Village, we carry fountains by Napoleon brand (see photo above). If you cannot find the exact wall fountain that you are looking for, indoor water falls can be made to fit your requirements and there are no limits to the size of waterfall you can have installed!
Indoor water features can turn your home or office into a space that you, your family and visitors find both appealing and comforting. By following Feng Shui teachings (which literally means Wind and Water) in your interior decorating, you can create a room that will leave a positive impression upon all who enter and provide a relaxing and soothing environment in which to unwind.
The market for outdoor living is expanding as we become more social in our culture. One of the favorite new lifestyle changes is to extend the seasons by placing a garden patio heater on your patio. There are various types of garden patio heaters which can be fueled by gas, coal, wood and electricity. These can range from free standing, fixed/plumbed into the ground, table models, wall units, and pit/basket types.
Due to the ease of use and versatility, the most popular type is the free standing gas model like those from Napoleon (see photo at right), which we carry in our stores. There are various free standing models on the market, but the important features to look for are highlighted below:
- Power Output: Power is described in BTU/h’s (British Thermal Units per hour). It is worth checking the BTU’s – this is the engine size and a more accurate way of understanding how much heat will be generated. There are three different power levels applied to patio heaters, based on their heat output. The Regular Power Level is applied to a patio heater that produces between 10,000 and 20,000 BTUs. A High Power Level describes a propane patio heater that produces between 21,000 and 39,000 BTUs. Extremely large units capable of putting out 40,000 to 50,000 BTUs are given the highest classification of Turbo Power Level.
- Heat Control: Some garden patio heaters only offer a high and low heat setting. Always look for variable heat control.
- Ignition Method: There are different ways to light your patio heater, and it depends on the model you have. On simpler models, a Direct Spark Ignition uses an electric spark to light a pilot light and once the pilot is lit, the control knob can be turned to the “On” position to light the main burner. More advanced units generally use a “piezo” lighter, in which a quartz crystal is used to produce a spark that lights the pilot light on the heater. The most advanced system is an electronic ignition head wired right into your home. This system is only applicable to permanent units.
- Safety: Garden patio heaters fitted with a tilt safety shut-off provide the best safety. This device will cut the supply of gas should the heater lean/tip over. In the event that your heater is placed on a sloping surface, or if someone tries to move the heater when it’s lit, the tilt switch will cut the gas supply.
- Finish: Stainless steel is the most popular finish, as it can be left outside without fear of rust or corrosion to spoil the look. Powder coated models are available in a variety of colors and should be protected by using a full length cover. This will keep the worst of the weather off and prevent fading, scratches, and the potential for rust. The third alternative is a hammered finish – this will weather well and can be obtained in various colors.
- Size: Canopy size is important, as is canopy construction. Single piece canopies are not repairable, so if the canopy gets damaged a replacement will be needed. Sectional canopies come in 4, 5 or 7 sections and offer a better solution. If knocked, a single leaf can be replaced at little cost.
Before you purchase or install a portable or permanent patio heater, review your local building and city codes. Also, take careful consideration when selecting a space to install the unit.
The technology in today’s garden patio heaters is tried and tested. These products offer all the style, convenience and ease of modern living, making the garden a room to enjoy all year round.
