Fireplace Village is proud to sponsor the 2010 Bedford Olde Town day. Scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, Bedford’s Olde Towne Day will be dedicated to the men and women who perished in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon.
The annual event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Riley Field Complex, will feature two flags commemorating the fallen.
One, a “Flag of Honor,” contains the names of all the civilians who perished in the Sept. 11 attacks. A second banner, the “Flag of Heroes,” lists the names of emergency services personnel who died in the attacks.
The day of celebration and remembrance will get off to a patriotic start, when the Bedford Fire Department Color Guard raises the American flag to “The Star-Spangled Banner.” That ceremony will be followed by an afternoon of entertainment, featuring the Riddle Brook Elementary School chorus, the North Main Music Guitar Army and the Bedford Youth Performing Company in “Annie.”
There will also be a variety of events for children and parents looking for a more active experience. At noon, the Lions Club will sponsor a Kids K Foot Race for children, followed by a frog-jumping contest at 1:30 p.m.
Residents will also have the chance to play a number of games throughout the day.
The proceeds from this year’s Olde Towne Day benefit the Bedford Historical Society; the Bedford High School Crew Club; the Bedford Barracudas Swim Team; and the Bedford Village Common Development Committee.
