How To Light Your Jotul Wood Stove in Three Easy Steps

Igniting a fire in your Jotul wood stove is a simple procedure. You just need the right materials close at hand and a rough idea of the layering technique. Follow these three easy steps and look forward to cozy flames.

Step 1 – Set up papers, kindling and two pieces of well seasoned firewood cut to a 2-inch diameter inside the firebox. Bunched paper goes on the bottom, with kindling stacked on top and the firewood laid across to weigh everything down. Leave space for air flow and ensure all materials are completely dry.

Step 2 – Open the draft vent completely. This allows maximum draw, which will help the flames ignite faster. Light the fire.

Step 3 – Leave the vent open until the firewood has burned for a few minutes. Then add a few larger pieces of firewood. Once those larger pieces are burning well, you can adjust the vents to the desired opening. Your fire should burn well for hours, with firewood added as needed.

A wood stove will dependably heat your house with very little work. Simply use these three easy steps to light your Jotul wood stove and comfort will follow.

What Are the Colors Available for a Jotul Wood Stove?

You can count on the quality of a Jotul wood stove to be second to none. And no matter what your needs, there is a perfect size and design available to meet them. Their trademark Gothic arches grace the doors of each model and create an upscale look in your living space. But you have an important choice to make when it comes to the overall appearance of your hearth.

Which of the custom finish colors will you choose for your new Jotul wood stove?

Your Options

All of the Jotul cast iron wood stoves come with a durable finish. There are five distinct colors available – four of those are enamel-based and one is a matte finish. Each will add beauty to your home and help make this wood stove an attractive focal point.

Your choices (available with most models) are:

• Matte Black Paint – A classic selection and still highly popular today, matte black has a subtle finish that will hide any marks well. It is very durable and goes well with every style of décor. If you’re looking for a standard appearance that will help your wood stove to blend in, matte black is the choice for you.
• Blue/Black Enamel – The first of the enamel selections, Blue/Black leans towards the classic look. But with a subtle hint of blue this enamel choice has a modern attitude. Looking for a classic wood stove centerpiece that has a little personality? Blue/black enamel may be just the thing.
• Ivory Enamel – This enamel will create a romantic look for your home. Gentle and luxurious, the creamy look of Ivory will be fabulous in a home with Colonial or Victorian décor and just as nice in a contemporary setting.
• Blue Majolica Enamel – Named for a finish famous in Renaissance Italy, the blue Majolica enamel is bold yet smooth. Without the black to temper it, this shade of blue makes the wood stove pop out as a striking focal point.
• Brown Majolica Enamel – Another finish with a flavor of the Italian Renaissance, the brown Majolica is warm and cozy, making it ideal for a rustic, country setting that’s filled with leather textures and deep furniture.

The finish color that you choose will make a big difference to the overall appearance of your wood stove. Weigh your options and think about the balance of the furniture in the room, as well as the colors in the walls and flooring. Pick something you can live with your years to come and enjoy the incredible beauty and comfort that Jotul wood stoves offer your home.
