Why You Need to Clean Your Pellet Stove and Chimney Before the Heating Season

pellet_stove_service_nh

Just like a traditional wood burning fireplace or wood stove that uses logs, pellet stoves need to be cleaned out for efficient operation. The chimney in your pellet stove heating system also needs to be inspected and cleaned annually to remove any creosote buildup.

A chimney fire due to creosote buildup is almost completely avoidable if you have the chimney cleaned once a year. Although pellet stoves are designed for maximum efficiency, creosote is a natural occurrence when burning wood and wood byproducts, leaving your stove and chimney system at risk.

It’s possible to clean parts of your pellet stove yourself, including the hopper, glass door and burn pot. Other elements such as the heat exchanger, ash drawer and ash traps may need the attention of a qualified technician. Also, many models have damper controls and adjustable feeds on the control panel, which can be looked at and adjusted by the technician.

To maximize the efficiency of your pellet stove and provide the safest atmosphere for your family have your pellet stove and chimney cleaned before the heating season begins.

Fireplace Village provides pellet stove cleaning and maintenance service as well as chimney cleaning and repair service. Contact Fireplace Village today to schedule your annual pellet stove and chimney cleaning.

Does the Glass Door On Your Pellet Stove Need to Be Cleaned When It Has An Air Wash System?

napoleon_nps40_pellet_stove

Air wash systems will keep your glass doors clear for a good length of time. While performing annual maintenance it’s important to have them cleaned thoroughly with a specially formulated cleaner to bring back an ultra clear shine.

Your pellet stove needs to be completely cooled down for this task to be done and the technician will bring the necessary tools and cleaning supplies to do so. If your pellet stove does not have an air wash system or the system is faulty, this clean up may be a little more extensive and difficult.

Viewing your fire through a clean and clear glass door is wonderful though and worth every penny that the annual maintenance costs.

Fireplace Village provides NFPA Level 1 Safety Inspection and Chimney Cleaning services for all pellet stoves and pellet fireplace inserts. Call 603-645-6263 or email us to schedule an appointment. Beat the fall rush and the fall prices.
