Napoleon Fireplace was founded in 1976 as a small steel fabrication business in Barrie, Ontario, Canada.

The first wood stoves rolled off the production line over 30 years ago, the Napoleon Fireplace commitment was to be distinctive and successful in the design and production of fire place, fireplace stoves, fireplace inserts and fireplace accessories products. The original wood stoves featured a solid cast iron two-door design. Over the years, the demand for Napoleon Fireplace wood stoves, fireplace inserts and gas direct vent fireplaces grew beyond Ontario's borders to the rest of Canada and into NH/NE and the rest of the United States.

The Napoleon gas direct vent fireplace does not require a chimney and can be vented directly through a wall or roof. The gas direct vent draws its combustion air from outside while venting to the same outside atmosphere - thereby not consuming warm house air, nor competing with other appliances and furnaces for combustion air. Gas direct vent also eliminates chimney drafts and heat loss associated with other chimneys and fireplaces.

The Napoleon natural vent gas fireplaces take in combustion air from in the home and vents products of combustion outside the home. Also known as a "B-Vent", a single pipe or liner exhausts combustion by-products to outside the home.
